Corey watched him go, curling back up under the covers. She both wanted him to dispose of the necklace and to stay in here with her. It was just a necklace, just jewelry. It couldn't hurt her, no, but it was what it represented that had her so frightened.
If he was here ... if he tried it again ... what then?
Shivering, Corey moved herself to Roland's side of the bed, curling up under the warm sheets, inhaling his scent on the pillow. Her eyes closed slowly, and as she waited for him to return, she simply listened to the lonely sound of her heart beating, counting the seconds.
