Undoubtedly, this was going to be embarrassing. If word of his Patronus's form ever got back to Lily, he would be mortified. But when there were souls at stake, he'd do what needed to be done, embarrassing or not. Perhaps, if he was lucky, he could get away with teaching without summoning a Patronus of his own. Perhaps, though it wasn't likely, and his stomach clenched uncomfortably at the very thought.
But he could do this. He'd been embarrassed before, and surely he would be again, and there were more important things than keeping his dignity intact. As much as he wanted to hide and let Lupin take care of the lessons, Severus knew he couldn't do that. Lily needed his help, and this was something he could do. Besides, once the Dementors actually arrived, they would need his Patronus, as well. There was no getting around it. So he might as well get it over with.
He made his way to the lobby at ten to two, almost hoping that nobody would show up. After all, he wasn't the most personable man alive. Most would likely prefer to learn this from Lupin, anyway. His palms were sweating, and his stomach roiled uncontrollably, now, but it had to be done. Unpleasant though it would undoubtedly be, it had to be done, even if at the moment, he would much prefer to save face.
The sun was uncomfortably bright, and it would take his eyes several minutes to adjust. In the meantime, he squinted, stretching his neck this way and that, as he attempted to work out the tension that had already begun to settle there. Then he pulled his wand from his pocket, transferring it briefly to his left hand as he wiped his right palm on his robes. He could do this. Lily was counting on him, after all.
