RP: Patro-what? Characters: Dave, Tristan, Hugo Time/Date: evening, September 18 Location: Outside Warnings/Rating: Two goofy boys goofing off? Summary: Dave tries to learn Status: Complete
Dave had read the thing about patronuses, and while he had no idea what they were, he knew they were magic. He could do magic, so he'd tracked down one of the magic people and asked. He was pretty sure their magic was compatible -- Balthazar's was with Lily's, at any rate -- so he wanted to try to be helpful, too.
He hadn't had much of a chance to do more than ... well, get stabbed since he'd been here. He hadn't even spoken with Balthazar much, though that was likely his own fault. He really, really didn't want to accidentally spill anything he'd decided he didn't want to tell him. Granted, by now, Balthazar was probably under the impression that Dave didn't like him ... but he couldn't really help that just now.
He'd bumped into Corey once more, but he'd been careful to give her her space and there hadn't been a repeat of the stabbing incident. He still hadn't figured out where he exactly fit here, and he wished every day that Becky -- his Becky -- would show up. She never did though.
He did have his ring back though, and that was good. He'd played around with it some and tried to figure out what did and didn't work. He could still do magic without it, but it was a lot harder. So he kept it on so he wouldn't have to struggle.
When he encountered Tristan in the lobby, he grinned and followed him outside. They found a relatively clear area to start working, though it was within sight of the hotel in case anyone got nosy.
Tristan grinned as he slipped his wand out. He flicked it and cast his patronus. The silvery werewolf burst forth from the tip of his wand, tumbling once before standing on four paws, tail wagging. "That," Tristan said with a gesture, "is a patronus. It's a modification of a shielding charm, so you'll want to start with a shield and we'll go from there," he dictated.
"Start with a shield," Dave agreed. "This, I can do this," he assured Tristan. He scrunched up his face and stanced, extending his arms out in front of him to focus his ring.
"Can you ... do it without looking like you're constipated?" Tris inquired, brows arching. He wasn't sure if Dave was trying to be funny or if he really did his magic that way, but it was funny ... so Tris hoped he was going for funny.
"I ... what?" Dave blinked a few times as he dropped his arms. "Is that really how I look?" He frowned.
"Kinda, yeah," Tris grinned. "But hey, however you make it work. I'm not here to judge."
"Good. Good. We don't like judging here," Dave said before he resumed his stance. He closed his eyes to clear his mind, and when he opened them, he cast a barrier between them. "Shield," he informed Tristan.
"Awesome," Tris said. He studied it for a moment as he tried to figure out how to get from step A to step B. He had to work his magic into Dave's somehow, and that was going to be interesting. "How'd they combine their magic before. You said Lily and some of the others got together, right?"
"Yeah," Dave said, holding onto the shield with part of his mind. "I don't know how they did it, exactly? I think they just kind of ... did spells at each other and saw where it went. Balthazar would know," he offered uselessly.
Tris bobbed his head a few times. "Awesome, so ..." he licked his lips slightly before he flicked his wand toward the shield. The spell rebounded violently, knocking Tristan on his rear and eliciting a surprised laugh. "Well shit," he said. "That didn't work right."
"Maybe I can't do it," Dave said.
"No, it's cool. We'll figure it out," Tristan said. They would figure it out, too; it would just take him a minute. He was a 'claw, he could work this shit out, he was sure of it.
