RP: Operation Hardware Store
Characters: Violet and open
Time/Date: Sometime on the 20th
Location: Starting in room 201 and heading for the spoken of hardware store
Warnings/Rating: PG-13 for now
Summary: Violet arrives and makes a plan of attack
Status: Open, ongoing

Violet had woken up in the hotel like room with a start thanks to another Count Olaf induced bad dream when she realized something was very amiss. "Curious, this is not West London" as she scanned the room and found both the device and the note. She read over it at least 3 times and simply mused,"Great, must assume this is an Olaf trap untill further notice" but at the same time had a couple of exchanges with someone via the device. After the exchange about a hardware store Violet was inspired,"Maybe I can get some answers while rebuilding my kit" she decided as she dressed. She chose a simple pair of jeans in case she wandered upon a junkyard along with a sweater and boots.

Violet plucked the key and device and slipped them into her pocket for the moment: as a science sort she was not going to take any chance. She then grabbed a small notebook she found inside one drawer,"Notes will be a must". That was when she left the room and decided the hardware store Tyler had spoken of was the first stop. "Then maybe finding a junkyard to get some spare pants, must plan for this being an Olaf trap" as she walked with a purpose. That was when she picked up on the music,"Note to self: locate a speaker and trash it!".

But then how many young woman would be the sort with notebooks and a bag of parts in a place like this?

Susan didn't trust the earplugs that were left over, and Jaime had mentioned the hardware store. Susan was less than keen on the idea of going outside because the music was there, too, but beggars and choosers and all of that.

She had at least managed to acquire some normal clothing from a trip to the mall. It was practical, sturdy clothing that would serve her better than the dresses she'd arrived with. The dresses suited in Narnia; they did not suit on ... Forsaken Island or wherever they were.

Strolling along - without her bow, though she had some misgivings about leaving it behind - Susan paused when she saw an unfamiliar person ... who looked a bit young to be out here. Especially if she was on her own.

"Excuse me," she called out. "Hello," she added as she lifted a hand in a wave to catch the girl's attention if she didn't already have it.

Violet was lost in trying to find a way to stop the awful music when she heard a voice call to her. She turned and called a cheery in spite of herself,"Hello! Just trying to find the hardware store so I can make something to stop that awful music" going with the most sane of her ideas for now. Her mental note taking was in full swing: this girl had to be her age or a bit older.

Susan swung one hand in a gestured toward the appropriate building, and she managed not to cringe when the music started up again - though she did pull a slight face.

"I'm not sure you can ... make anything to stop it," Susan called out, a little skeptical as she approached the other girl. How, even, would someone go about making something to stop music?

"We've got earplugs though, inside. I was going out to get more." Well, that was something of a fib, but she wanted a fresh box that people hadn't touched or possibly done things to.

"I'm Susan," she said as she extended one hand. "Pevensie. Recently of England," she added, though everyone she'd met so far had guessed by her accent.

Violet then realized Susan's accent was much like her own as she spoke and offered her hand. "Violet Baudelaire, also of England. As for my idea I'm an inventor and well I think somewhat out of the box. But then simply throwing a rock at the speaker does seem reasonable at this point" she confessed. She plucked a few promsing rocks from the ground, just in case they found a speaker.

An inventor. Susan regarded the girl for a moment, and while she knew it was ... well, wrong of her to think so, when she heard 'inventor' she couldn't help but imagine an old man with fly-away white hair and goggles over his forehead making notes on endless sheets of paper. Where she'd picked up that particular stereotype, she wasn't completely sure, but there it was.

She decided that all inventors had to start somewhere, so why couldn't Violet be one?

"Pleasure to meet you," she said quietly, politely. Since they were both apparently headed to the same place, Susan cocked her head and started in that direction again. "Have you been here long, or have you just ... well, I'd say arrived, but that's hardly the proper phrasing, is it?"

"Likewise Susan" Violet could feel her proper self coming back and it showed. "Not really but yes, just arrived complete with all the problems i includes from finding the note to having too many questions and too few answers" she nodded. She made some notes into her notebook,"What bothers me besides the lack of real insight is just the look of this place".

"There isn't much by way of answers here. I ... myself and a few others have spent time exploring this place. It's ... barren. A bit of a wasteland, really. The areas they want us to be are ... fairly obvious," she admitted, gesturing toward the hotel and the few buildings that were powered.

Which made the stubborn, contrary part of her want to move into one of the ramshackle shacks that littered the other end of the island. Perhaps they couldn't observe her so well down there.

"It isn't a very pretty place," she agreed as she stepped along the road toward the stores. "There's a mall though, and they seem to have clothing in ... sizes that fit the people here. It's all very well plotted out," she muttered bitterly. It did make her wonder what their endgame was though. What was the point of all of this?

"Very curious" Violet observed. She explained,"My ongoing hunch is Count Olaf but the scale is much too grand for this to be him and hold on one second" as she threw a rock into what looked like a speaker but was not one. "Do you know about anyone else that is here?" hoping for word of her brother and sister at the same time.

"I don't ..." Susan trailed off and shrugged. "Well, the only one that's talked to us has been a Doctor Sam. Through the ... network." So there was no reason a Count Olaf couldn't be helping out. For all she knew, the White Witch had a hand in this ... though she found that unlikely.

"I've met a few people," Susan said. "There were siblings, Alice and Edward, and I've seen a few people talking on the network. So there's ... I don't know. A dozen or so people here so far? That I know about."

"Just not ruling anything out, at least till I can get more insight" Violet explained. She mused,"Curious as well, there being a brother and sister" part of her thinking of Klaus and Sunny. She jotted this into her notebook,"I spoke with someone named Tyler I think via the network".

Susan shrugged. She didn't think there was anything odd about it, though it wasn't as though there was anything like a pattern. Her siblings hadn't been taken.

She nodded to Violet's comment. "I've seen him talking to people. Never really spoke with him myself though," she admitted.

Once they arrived at the store, Susan eased open the door and stepped inside. The place had a mostly unused feel about it, and it seemed to be a hollow, empty shell of a store. Still, if Jaime had found things here earlier, then ... there must still be things to find. "If you wanted to ... to tell me what sorts of things you were looking for, we could split up. See if we can get out of here a little quicker."

It was kind of ... spooky in here.

"The help would be lovely!" Violet cracked a rare enough smile. "Actually I could use some general tools since my own have gone missing plus screws, bolts and that sort of thing. I'll go after the parts to destory the speakers if we come across any of them".

Susan nodded slightly. She was fairly certain she could recognize the items that Violet was requesting, and a faint smile tugged at her lips. It was fleeting though as she turned her attention to the rest of the store.

"So ... I'll meet you back here then? In fifteen or so minutes?" Susan reasoned that the store was quiet enough that she'd be able to hear if Violet had to yell for help - and vice-versa.

Starting off toward the left side of the store, Susan began to prowl for items of interest - including but not limited to the list Violet had given her.

"Sounds good and just yell if you need me or need me to locate something!" Violet called as she went into her side of the shop.

Her plan was simple, piece together a simple kit and find parts.

Susan lifted one hand in a wave as she started off exploring. She wandered by a section with a scattering of sample paint strips, and she investigated those curiously before plucking a few free. Granted, they probably wouldn't help, but they were kind of pretty. She noticed one of them had writing on it ... and upon closer inspection, discovered that all of them of that shade had a number on them. Recalling the entry about numbers, Susan slipped one into her pocket before continuing her search for tools and bolts and anything else she determined might be useful.

Fifteen minutes later, she wandered back toward the front of the store. She'd managed to procure a hammer and some nails, two common types of screw drivers, and a series of nuts, bolts, and washers. Whether or not it was going to be useful remained to be seen, but all the same, she waited with her prize for the other girl to return.
