RP: Wake Up Call
Characters: Jo Lupo and Tyler Simms
Time/Date: 28 August, Mid-Afternoon
Location: Room 209, then 2nd floor corridor
Warnings/Rating: Language
Summary: Unfamiliar room? Time to bring out the guns.
Status: Complete

Waking from her previously enjoyable nap, Jo stretched. She was only able to appreciate the post-nap drowsiness for a few seconds before she ripped the covers off of herself and stood wearily regarding the unfamiliar room. Although she had been groggy after a late night of paperwork, she was relatively sure she hadn't wandered into a high class hotel room on accident.

Noticing her sidearm and knife on the nightstand along with a note and blackberry, she cocked the gun and searched the room thoroughly before reading the note.

"Unique program? What the Hell..." she muttered, balling the paper up and tossing it in a nearby wastebasket. Josefina Lupo was not a willing prisoner, and she intended on showing it.

Pulling on a pair of comfortable pants and a black top that she had found in the wardrobe, Jo stuck the blackberry and room key into her back pocket before strapping her throwing knife onto her calf and making her way into the hall. She knew there was a slim chance her captors were anywhere nearby, but she didn't want to be taken off guard.

Tyler was slowly adjusting to 'normal' again. Sure, the voice posts weren't normal, and he was worried about Jaime, but he and Lily decided they couldn't really do anything for her if she didn't want to be helped. He was more concerned about what was going to happen next. It felt kind of like they'd gotten a week off - if one discounted the anonymous network posts - and it made him sick to wonder what was coming next.

He thought it was a little telling he hoped it was something like the constant music, or the weather changes.

Intending to head down to the lobby to see if anyone was around to watch a movie with, Tyler stepped out into the hall. He paused when he saw someone else standing there though, and he offered her a slight smile. He wasn't as familiar with the people present as Lily was, but he didn't think he recognized the woman.

So he spoke the words that she'd probably very quickly get sick of hearing. "New here?"

Contemplating the hallway shrewdly, Jo jumped at the unexpected voice and pointed her gun at him without a second thought.

He was young, maybe seventeen, but she wouldn't put it passed whoever brought her here to use a kid. She was barely eighteen herself when she was recruited. He seemed nice enough, but she had been fooled by pretty faces before and it hadn't turned out well.

"Who are you? Where is this place and why did you bring me here?" Jo barked, her pistol aimed squarely between his eyes. Finding out answers was her first priority, even if her methods were a little blunt.

"Whoa, hey," Tyler said, holding his hands up in a gesture of surrender. Maybe it was just him, but there seemed to be an awful lot of guns around lately. Sure, there were the ones that had been doled out for the attack, but ... before that, there hadn't been that many.

Or maybe there had been, and he hadn't noticed.

"I didn't bring you here," he said quickly. "We don't know where this place is, just that it's an island." Or it looked like one, which was close enough for his tastes. "I'm in the same boat you are. They kidnapped me, too, a couple of months ago. I've been here ever since."

He decided that was enough for now; he could talk more comfortably once she lowered the gun. Assuming she didn't just shoot him, because man, that would suck if he couldn't block the bullet in time.

Eying him thoughtfully, Jo slowly lowered her gun and placed it in the holster that was strapped snuggly around her waist. The note had said something about 'others' being there as well, and she figured any enemy of her enemy was her friend.

"A...A couple months ago?" she said uneasily, her posture stiffening from its already ridged state. How long were these people planning on keeping them here?

Figuring their awkward start had to end somewhere, she held out her hand. "Jo. Jo Lupo." She knew having a gun pointed at you wasn't the best way to meet someone, but she was high strung and stressed out of her mind at the moment. This was probably the best meeting he was gonna get under those conditions.

Tyler reached out to take her hand, shaking it. "Tyler Simms," he introduced himself. He was just going to pretend he wasn't shaking a little from having a gun pointed at him. Sure, he probably could've handled it if she'd shot at him, but maybe he wouldn't have been able to.

"A couple of months," he confirmed. "It's ..." He glanced down at his watch, which he'd set to correspond to the assumed date. "August twenty-eighth today. Lily's been here since June ninth. She's been here the longest," he added to clarify his point.

"This really ... it's not a good place." He made a gesture with one hand toward part of the wall no one had gotten around to fixing up yet, a line of three bullet holes in plain sight. "We recently had an attack here, inside the hotel. That was the worst so far, but ... they aren't exactly out to make friends with us."

August twenty-eighth... well, at least she had some information down. This 'Lily' was apparently the leader of this gang of misfits, so Jo made a mental note to find her at some point.

"What do you mean by 'that was the worst so far'?" Jo asked, frowning deeply at the bullet holes. "They did other things to the people here? And why are we being watched anyway? The only thing that's special about me is my marksmanship, and I doubt I'm the best."

That fact alone was bugging Jo more than anything else. Although she liked to think of herself as one of a kind, she was surrounded by geniuses on a daily basis. Why didn't the kidnappers take one of them for examination? They would much more interesting than a small town Deputy.

Tyler licked his lips. "Since we've been here ... they've given us a heat wave and a blizzard. A week of snow. A week of thunderstorms. They'd played children's songs incessantly with no way to turn them off. They've put kids' shows on TV with nothing else. Um. They've put videos of experimentation on the network ... people in hospital, a brain surgery, and ... and some heads in jars.

"Sometimes people get singled out and have things happen to them. Like have things show up in their rooms that shouldn't be there, or ... once they swiped like, a dozen people's clothes and replaced them with Halloween costumes. But they've never really ... sent an army at us before."

Tyler also hoped they never did again.

"I'm not sure, honestly, why they're pulling any of us. Some of us have powers and things like that, but it really seems kind of random selection. So we're not entirely sure it's about the powers we have so much as it is them just cramming together a bunch of different people to see what happens."

"Heads in jars?" Jo asked, her brow furrowed in distaste. This sounded more like mental torture, not observation. Why would they want to drive people crazy? What possible information could they get from that?

"Is this some kind of sick soap opera to them?" she murmured, rubbing her forehead and sighing in exasperation. This was insane.

Never one to drop a source of information, Jo asked one last question. "That line. The one the mentioned in the note. What was that all about?"

He nodded. "Floating, in some sort of preservative fluid, I think, but ... I think it was meant as a warning for us. Everyone ... I'm pretty sure everyone saw a different head." He hadn't told Lily or Jaime who he had seen, but he thought they both knew. Or could reasonable guess.

"I ... we think so. They seem pretty twisted, and they've been doing a lot of things meant to trigger bad memories in people, to scare them or make them unstable. Sometimes I think they're just seeing how long it takes to break us."

Tyler nodded when she brought up the line. "When you go outside, it's ... it's like a white painted line that kind of marks the perimeter of the safe area. If you cross it, there are ... traps set on the other side. Chase fell into a tank of acid. Someone else I heard got stuck in quicksand, or something like it." He hesitated. "One girl did cross the line, but ... but she was. Um. She disappeared shortly after that. We don't ... think they liked her doing that."

He hesitated. "If you had any magic or anything, being nearer the line tends to mess with it, makes it harder to do what you intend to do - or so I've heard from people who've tried."

"Well... thank you, Tyler. For filling me in on everything. I know I'm not the easiest person to talk to." Slightly uncomfortable with thanking anyone, Jo quickly nodded her head and began to back away.

"I think I'm going to explore a bit more, so I'll see you later?" Not waiting for a reply, she turned towards the elevator at the end of the corridor. "I don't know this Lily, but could you tell her to contact me if there's any more attacks? Shooting things really helps my nerves."

"Sure," he agreed as he watched her retreat. He tried not to be amused, but ... hey, everyone reacted differently to being kidnapped, right?

"There're announcements in the network if anything important is about to happen. So just keep an ear out for your phone," he said. He also didn't think there'd be any more attacks any time soon, but leave it to them to let everyone drop their guards before springing a second wave of reavers or something on them.

"See you," he added as he turned himself away to head toward the stairs to continue his way where he'd been headed.
