Jaime was growing less and less fond of this place every day. She hated clicking on things without knowing what they were, but at the same time, she had to know. When the recording started, she swallowed hard. She recognized that voice. Moreover, she recognized her own voice. And she knew every person here was hearing it. She knew where the conversation went, and she hoped it stopped before ... but no. Why would they bother, if they weren't going to blow her past wide open?
When the recording ended, it didn't go away which erased all her hopes of maybe killing it off people's devices or asking them not to listen or something.
It was something she hadn't even really gotten into with Lily and Tyler. She'd mostly gotten over most of her hang-ups and it hardly seemed relevant anymore. The conversation was years old ...
... it was years old.
How the hell long had these people been stalking the people they wanted to kidnap?
The fact that it was years old didn't matter. It still sounded like her; her voice hadn't changed much in the few years since she'd that conversation. So for all anyone here knew, it happened yesterday. Or just before she'd been brought here. But that didn't even matter, because now it was out there. What she didn't want anyone to know.
She wasn't normal. She wasn't well-adjusted. She faked her way through a lot of things because she was unwanted.
Knowing it wouldn't do any good, because there really wasn't anywhere to hide here, Jaime retreated to the roof. If she'd thought about it, she would have gone out to one of the shacks or something, but ... she'd be found eventually. So she climbed the stairs to the roof, letting herself out onto it. She looked around and decided to go hide in the little alcove by the showers. It would keep her mostly hidden from casual observance, and that was all she wanted right now. To hide.
