Jaime jumped a little when she felt him playing with her hair, and she shrugged. "Fine," she agreed. "Just ... tired, I guess."
She offered Kaylee a smile when she appeared, and she shrugged. She didn't think she really trusted herself with Mal's spare key, but he couldn't really get up and get downstairs easily until his foot was in better shape. So she'd probably be running him food and things like that, so it would just be ...easier. So she took the key, sliding it into the pocket of her jeans once it had been surrendered.
She also pretended to have no idea what the wink was about.

Kyle followed the idea of her explanation only because he knew her and had developed a method of translating her spoken words with the intended concepts. He didn't know exactly how it worked, nor would he be able to explain it to anyone else, but it was something distinctly River.
"I take care of you, too," Kyle objected softly as he followed River into her room, his brow furrowing slightly. Well, he liked to think that he took care of her. He wanted her to be happy, and well. Didn't that count as taking care of her?
