For a moment, Jaime resembled a deer in the headlights. Or would have, if she were a deer and there were headlights. There wasn't exactly any excuse, was there? While she'd known this moment was distinctly possible, she'd done a really great job of ... ignoring it.
So she shrugged. "I just ... wanted to be there when you woke up." She was, unfortunately, distracted from prompting him to continue whatever he'd just cut himself off from saying.
Once they'd navigated the elevator, Jaime started to lead him down toward his room, trying not to think how she was going to leave his room and not join him in bed. Even if she'd like to. Even if it was just to sleep.
When they reached his room, Jaime glanced to him expectantly for the key.
Kyle followed River out of the infirmary. He was a little perplexed by the unspoken words between her and her brother, but he could see the looks and expressions, even if he did not completely understand them.
"When is another time?" he inquired as he laced their joined fingers together, squeezing her hand softly as he gazed at her.
