RP: This Feeling
Characters: Ariana, Lizzy, Ches
Time/Date: Evening, August 15
Location: stairwell
Warnings/Rating: Low
Summary: Ari finally emerges
Status: Complete

Ari had been here for several days. She'd made forays into the kitchen at night for food, and simply kept to her room during the day. She watched out the window, and played with a deck of cards that had been in the nightstand. She'd cried, and wished for her brothers to be here.

Today though ... today she'd heard a lot of activity. The small squarish device she'd left on her nightstand buzzed frequently, though she couldn't make sense of everything that was written. It didn't sound good, and some of the words ... she didn't know the meanings of. She liked the ones where people were talking better, though the one with the loud bangs had scared her - and reminded her too much of when her brothers argued and had their wands out at each other.

She thought she should probably try to find someone to help her. She only had the dress she'd arrived in, and she hadn't found anything else to wear in the room. Maybe someone could tell her where to get new dresses.

Ariana made her way down the stairs, though she hesitated at the bottom step. Instead of stepping past into the lobby, where she heard people talking and smelled something good cooking, she sat down on the step. Maybe she'd wait until some people had left, first.

Lizzy wasn't a big fan of whatever was going on in the hotel that had everyone so worried. It made her think that she should be nervous too, but there were two problems with that: one, she didn't want to be nervous, and two: she didn't know what to be nervous about, and really, she didn't care. She was pretty sure that someone was probably posting it to those silly little talking devices that everyone carried around, but she didn't really like those things. They were little more than playthings for Ches.

Who, speaking of, was being thoroughly uncooperative with her today. It seemed that no matter where Lizzy wanted to go, Ches blocked her path. She was pretty sure he knew that she was trying to go outside to play around in the fresh air and didn't want her to, thus blocked every move that she tried to make in that direction, but it didn't make it any less annoyed with him.

She decided to try and trick him. Acting like she'd given in and was going to let him have his way, she waited until they were near the stairs and then bolted down them, two and sometimes three at a time, finally reaching the bottom all triumphant. Ches was right on her tail, of course, but at least now she'd finally made it downstairs.

... And there was someone there already.

"Hi," Lizzy said, her tone sounding confused, and annoyed because of said confusion. "What are you doing?" she paused, and thought that she could sort of hear voices nearby. Craning her neck to see where they were coming from, she turned back to the young girl and said, "Are you spying? That's rude."

She was one to talk, but that was not really the point.

Ari stared with wide blue eyes at the girl who was slightly smaller than her. "No," she said quickly, shaking her head as she scrambled to stand up, backing into the wall. The girl was dressed oddly, at least from her perspective, which - admittedly - was very narrow.

Blue eyes flicked to the side, seeking escape that wasn't the door to the lobby, and she glanced at the cat. Her lips parted slightly before she shook her head again.

"I wasn't spying," she said quickly in a whisper. "I was just sitting here until some of the people had gone away." She missed her brothers, and more than ever she wished Abe would sweep in and just be here and save her.

This girl was weird, Lizzy decided, as she put her hands on her hips and stared at her. She peered down at Ches as he wound his way through Lizzy's legs, peering at the other girl with no small amount of curiosity from big blue eyes.

"You were spying," Lizzy had pretty much made up her mind - there was unlikely to be any changing of it at this point. "Why would you be waiting for people to go away? Are you scared of people?"

She shrugged her shoulders. "You don't need to be scared of the people, you need to be scared of other things. I don't know what though, cause I haven't asked, but everyone scared about something today." She stuck out her hand, apparently having forgiven the girl for being weird. "I'm Lizzy," she said. "This is Ches. He's my cat."

There was a small flick of the tail from Ches, and a narrowing of the eyes that was easily missed, but would have given the impression that Ches didn't really like the statement of ownership that Lizzy had developed. But it passed quickly, and he proceeded to try and act casual and cat-like, licking at his paw carefully as he sat by Lizzy's feet, swooshing his tail lightly against the floor.

Ariana flinched slightly at the motion of Lizzy's hand toward her, and she studied it a moment. Men shook hands. Did the girl expect that of her? Hesitantly, she held out her own hand, first palm down before she turned it to shake Lizzy's hand.

"Ariana Dumbledore," she introduced herself as she retracted her hand, absently wiping her palm on her skirt once she'd rescued it from Lizzy's grip.

"And I was not spying. Nor am I afraid of people," she protested. Except ... she was, sort of. She was afraid of what she might do to people if she had an accident. "But don't let me stand in your way," she said softly, assuming the girl was on her way somewhere.

She had a weird name, too, but Lizzy wasn't altogether surprised by that. Weird people had weird names. It was a common fact of life, really.

She wasn't really impressed at the way the girl wiped off her hand after shaking Lizzy's, and harrumphed in an obvious way, crossing her arms over her chest to show that she was upset.

"You were spying," Lizzy insisted. "That's what it's called when you sit out of sight and listen to people talking. So if you're really not afraid of them, then you were spying, and people don't like spying."

She wondered who Ariana was spying on, actually. She wondered if it was Tyler, and she felt a bubble of anger and frustration well up, and she wanted to scold Ariana for spying on Tyler, but she supposed she wouldn't immediately. She couldn't really blame her for wanting to know, and then if she ever got caught doing the same, she would never live it down.

"I don't know where I was going," Lizzy admitted, shrugging her shoulders. She wasn't really embarrassed. "Ches didn't want me to go downstairs and I wanted to prove that I could."

"I was not!" she insisted, lifting one hand to her temple as if she could still the buzzing that was her magic, seeking a way out. Ways out that she couldn't control. She did notice though that the buzzing hadn't been as often or as loud here, and sometimes she could actually think properly without a hoard of bees in her head.

She was distracted by mention of someone not letting the girl go, but she didn't see anyone else. Wide blue eyes turned toward the stairs, expecting to see the mysterious Ches coming. Then she recalled, a little belatedly that Ches was ...

"Your cat," she said. "Did not want you to go downstairs?" And the girl had to prove that she could? Her brow furrowed slightly as she tried to work that one out. "Is he an animagus then?"

Were too, Lizzy thought, but she managed not to say it outloud. The girl was weird, and Lizzy didn't have the energy to argue with her right now. Not with everyone in such a fuss over... something. Whatever. It was becoming harder and harder to not care about whatever it was the more tense the air became.

"My cat," Lizzy agreed, leaning down to pick him up. He seemed content enough to allow that for the moment, purring softly as she stroked him, but Lizzy knew that if she made an attempt to do something he didn't approve, she'd find herself unable to, one way or the other. "I think it has something to do with whatever has the adults so upset." Apparently, even though she didn't really like Ariana, she still considered them in a group apart from the adults. "I don't really know, and he's not exactly telling me," she scowled faintly at Ches before allowing him to drop from her arms at the question of him being an animagus.

"I have no idea what you just said," she said bluntly. "He's a cat."

"I can't read it all," she admitted, dropping her eyes slightly. She wished she'd had more time devoted to her studies, but she had a feeling even if she knew all the words, she still wouldn't be able to make complete sense of it. Some of it was beyond her. "So I don't know, either," she added.

"Can I pet your cat?" she inquired, because that was polite. She glanced up as someone walked in and moved past them toward the stairs. She was aware of an odd look cast in their direction, but apparently whoever it was didn't much care about two young ladies in the stairwell.

Ariana stared after him. He was a Muggle, clearly, but his clothing looked odd, even for Muggle men. Lizzy's attire looked strange as well, but girls, young girls, often dressed in silly attire and no one thought much of it. Perhaps everyone here had odd attire, which brought about the fact she had no attire aside from what she wore.

"Do you know where we can get more clothing?" she inquired. "I only have this, really."

Lizzy had a moment where she felt an intense bout of relief. Princess training had given her a vague understanding of words and things, and she'd discovered a feature that could have the computer thing narrate her bits that she didn't quite get, but she was glad to hear that she was not the only one who was having trouble with the devices. The relief showed on her face for a few moments before she schooled her expression back into something more holier than thou. She was going to launch into an arrogant spiel about how she was much better off, but she really lost her enthusiasm for it before it even came out.

She nodded her head. "Sure," she agreed. "If he'll let you," sometimes Cheshire didn't really like other people, and would skitter away from their hands. As if in response, the cat wove it's way between Ariana's legs, resting gently next to her, turning only when it noticed the movement of the other man. A low hiss started in the back of Ches' throat, and Lizzy peered curiously at the cat before she glanced up to see what was going on, ducking her head immediately when she saw who it was. Chase... scared her, for reasons she couldn't quite pinpoint, and she wasn't entirely convinced that he wasn't responsible for that day at the pool.

"I don't like him," she confided in Ariana, when Chase was out of earshot, and then her eyes widened when Ariana mentioned she didn't have any clothes. She nodded her head enthusiastically. "Yeah, yeah, there's a mall, come on," she reached out to grab Ariana's hand, intending to lead her to where the mall was. "I'll show you."

Ches was not amused with the idea of heading outside - unlike the girls, he was fully aware of the dangers that they were now facing, and the potential for attack as early as that afternoon, and wouldn't it just be wonderful for Lizzy to be outside when the beasts started attacking.

But... he wasn't sure he was willing to use any sort of magic in this girl, Ariana's presence. He felt a strange feeling emanating off of her, and didn't like the way it made his hair stand on end. So he supposed he'd have to allow it for the moment, and hope for the best later.

He knew there was a swordsman who lived outside the hotel. Perhaps, in the event of danger, that man would come to Lizzy's aid. He had before, if indirectly. Or perhaps the danger everyone was fearing would not happen today.

Ari crouched down to stroke the cat's back gently, but carefully, with soft hands. "Why don't you like him?" she inquired as she glanced up ... but of course by then he was gone. She could hear his footsteps higher up the stairs though. She didn't know the man, of course, but she had nothing against him. Well, no more than she had against all people she didn't know. The simple wariness, the assumption everyone would hurt her in some way.

She stood up from her crouch when the younger girl mentioned a mall, though she was unfamiliar with the term. "I don't ... have any way to pay for them," she admitted. Even if she'd had any galleons on her - which she didn't - she'd seen no evidence that this was a wizarding place. Quite the contrary, in fact. So she had no Muggle money, either, and even if she'd had that, it would have been in pounds and pence, and not in whatever American Muggles used.

It was a very vexing situation.

"Cause he's mean," Lizzy decided on. It was the closest answer she could come up with. "And because Tyler doesn't like him," she added with a nod of her head, as if that settled it. As if she was any kind of authority on who Tyler liked and didn't like. But he didn't get along with Chase, she knew that much, and that made him a Bad Person in her books.

Reaching to secure her fingers around Ariana's wrist, she started trying to lead her in the direction of the door. "You don't need money," she assured the other girl. "You don't have to pay for anything. There's not even anyone to take your money or anything. You can just take stuff. From anywhere around here. They put it back and everything later, I think. At least, we never run out of stuff."

She was excited now. Despite her initial reservations, she was finding herself fast growing attached to the idea of having someone around who seemed closer to her age.

"Who is Tyler?" Ariana inquired. While she was perplexed by the younger girl's answer, she was content enough to be led away. She thought she'd seen the name on the computer, but she wasn't sure.

Nothing about this place made sense, but Ariana didn't suppose it was supposed to. Or maybe it made sense to people older and wiser than her, though Lizzy seemed to have a handle on it, which made her wonder if it was just because of her condition that she didn't understand it all.

She just ... wanted her brothers here.

Exhaling a sigh, Ariana followed along with Lizzy. At least she'd find something to wear, if nothing else came of the trip.
