Summary: Lily brings Remus some clothing
Status: complete

Lily had given some very brief thought to finding Jaime to help her find something for Remus to wear, but she didn't know where the other girl was, and she wasn't gifted in finding people like Jaime was. So instead, she ventured to the mall by herself and made a few educated guesses about his sizes. She reasoned he could shop on his own after, and just needed something ... not a costume.

That almost seemed like a joke after what else they'd been doing to them.

Lily wasn't sure she wanted to share the tale of the video with Remus, because most of her was not at all inclined to hear any sort of confirmation in regard to her possible demise. She certainly didn't want to hear him admitting that James had died, either. He was certainly from their future though, which meant he'd know if she wanted to ask.

Carrying a couple of shirts and a few pair of trousers in different sizes, Lily made her way to the room Remus had indicated. She rapped lightly on the door and shifted her weight slightly to wait. She was eager to see him, eager to have a familiar face around, even if he was older.

Remus had been staring at his chicken costume and wondering what kind of a place he'd ended up in. Magic couldn't change the thing into real clothing, he was unable to apparate, and then there was all of the Muggle appliances.

When he heard the knock on the door, his head snapped up and he slowly walked towards it. Cracking it open just enough to peer out, his eyes widened in shock as he saw Lily.

"What did you say to me when you found out about my pet rabbit?" he asked, wanting to verify whether or not it was really her.

For a few seconds, Lily simply stared blankly. His ... pet ... oh. She rolled her eyes and managed a smile for him. "Your furry little problem? Were you looking for exact phrasing, or just a general idea of it all?"

It hadn't exactly been that long ago, all things considered, and she licked her lips slightly. So much had happened. "I'm fairly certain I offered to help any way that I could, even if it was a completely pointless gesture since the four of you already had your methods of dealing with it. And then I offered you tea and chocolate biscuits in case you wanted to talk about it in depth just then," Lily replied.

To the best of her recollection, that was how it had gone. "So do I win then?" she inquired as she tilted her head to try to peek through the door to get a good look at him.

"Good enough," he replied, breaking into a grin as he opened the door. Remus smiled warmly and motioned for her to come inside, barely resisting the urge to grab Lily and hug her tightly.

"I can't believe it's really you!"

If she'd never seen the video, she would simply have chalked up the enthusiastic reception to him being pleased to see a familiar face. As it was, now, she had to wonder if she'd beed dead to him for a couple of decades, give or take a few years for bad math.

"Hello, love," she greeted him softly as she studied him briefly before recalling her armful of clothing, which she then offered to him.

"I guessed on the sizes," she admitted. "But they should fit well enough to get you down to the mall to pick out better things that fit you properly."

She gazed at him a moment longer, smiling faintly. "It is good to see you. I haven't seen anyone else I know, really. Sirius' brother is - or was - here, and I did briefly encounter an old Snape, but ... he's been gone for some time."

Remus took the clothing from her and smiled, checking the sizes. "It's fine. And thank you... I wasn't looking forward to having only my pyjamas and a chicken outfit as my only outfits."

When she mentioned Sirius' brother, Remus arched an eyebrow. "Regulus? But he..." He trailed off before completing the comment. Lily was proof enough that not everyone seemed to be brought here from the same points in time.

She smiled softly to Remus, shaking her head slightly. "They ... generally bring some things from ... from home, with us here. I'm certain they've at least left you your wand, and you," she said with slight emphasis and a little smile, "will likely have some of your books here as well."

Tilting her head, she arched her brows slightly w hen he started to say something about Regulus. "He what?" she pressed gently. Remus though, was ... older than her. Old enough to have lived through a lot ... and known a lot of people who fell to the war. Things that had happened after her time, and Lily was for a moment morbidly curious as to just how many of her friends hadn't made it.

Aside from herself, obviously, because if the video was true at all, she'd died while she wasn't much older than she was now. A brief, haunting darkness slipped across her eyes before she turned her head away.

Waving a hand to dismiss her question about Regulus, Remus disappeared briefly into the loo so he could change into some clothing.

"We can't risk changing the past by me telling you anything," he explained. "You know I would tell you anything, Lily. But if we return to our regular places where we were kidnapped from with our memories intact, it could have disastrous consequences."

Lily swallowed. "I don' t... I don't think that's an issue," she admitted, the haunted darkness creeping back into her eyes as she wrapped her arms around herself.

"Just tell me this, and we'll know if ... future knowledge matters at all here." She looked away, because looking at him while telling him this simply wasn't going to fly. "Does Voldemort kill James, then me, then my son? Does he come into our house and kill us all?" She, of course was simply assuming Harry had been killed. The video had cut off before the third flash, but surely ... Harry was the next target.

Remus closed his eyes, not wanting to have to be the one to confirm what she apparently already knew. "Harry survives, thanks to you," Remus finally whispered softly.

"But we lost both you and James that night. I lost all of you that night. And I wouldn't see Harry again until he was 13."

Harry survived. How. What had she done? What could she have done? And ... he survived, with his parents dead. What had happened to him then?

She was sure James would have made Sirius his godfather, but ... if Remus didn't see him again for at least another ten years, depending on when the video had taken place ... where had her son been? Surely if Sirius had him, Remus would have seen him before that.

Lily decided she didn't want to wonder what had happened to Sirius. Nor did she really want to know about what events could possibly have led to Sirius and Remus not seeing one another. Unless Harry wasn't with Sirius, but who else? Who else could it possibly have been?

She shook her head before she reached out to touch Remus' arm. She didn't have anything to say. She really couldn't ... form any sort of response to that that wasn't a question she didn't want an answer to. "Thank you," she finally got out, her voice thick before she cleared her throat.

Maybe ... she'd just keep the knowledge that the video was real - or at least based on real events - to herself, to let the others who wanted to, continue to pretend that their videos were false.

Remus nodded quietly and turned around, hugging Lily again. "Do I even want to ask how you knew about that?"

Maybe this was some sort of elaborate plan of Voldemort's. Some kind of spell combined with the a Time Turner. He couldn't think of any other explanation at the moment that would make sense.

Lily shook her head slightly. Her lips parted, her eyes closed, and she summoned her considerable Gryffindor courage.

"There was a video, on the network," she began dully. "It showed him, Voldemort, coming into the house. Our house, the one in the Hollow that ... that James' parents were buying for us." The one she wasn't yet living in, the one she very suddenly never wanted to live in.

"He ... on the video, it showed ... James. Yelling at me to. To take Harry and go, and then ... then James was dead, and the video it ... it focused on his ... on him. On his face, and there was ... in the background, I could h-hear myself." She bit down on her lower lip.

"I saw the flash, from upstairs," she said softly. "Then the video stopped, and went away." She pressed her cheek against Remus' shoulder, closing her eyes and blinking the tears down her cheeks. "His glasses were crooked," she added absurdly.

"You gave your life to protect baby Harry," Remus explained. "Peter betrayed us all, Lily. He became the Secret Keeper instead of Sirius and betrayed you and James to Voldemort. Then he faked his own death, Sirius went to Azkaban unjustly, and Harry was raised by your sister and brother-in-law."

Remus rested his cheek in her hair and held her protectively. "You'd be so proud of him, Lily. Harry's an amazing young man."

Part of her was absolutely certain that Remus was lying, but she couldn't fathom why he'd lie to her, about that. It all sounded so ... improbable if not impossible, but ... it was an elaborate lie if it was one.

She exhaled softly when she heard about Sirius. About Peter. She shuddered and buried her face against Remus' shoulder, willing herself not to cry. Not now. He was the new arrival, and she ... needed to be stronger than this.

"How could he not be?" she murmured as she drew her head back. "With me and James for parents?"

"Exactly." Remus pulled back and smiled warmly, looking into those green eyes that he'd missed for so long now.

"No matter what's happened in the past or what happens here, I promise I'm going to be here for you. You know that, right? Us Gryffindors need to stick together."

Lily smiled softly. It was nice to have another Gryff around, and she nodded slowly. She wished James had come with him, but on the very heels of that, was glad he hadn't. She wouldn't wish this place on her worst enemy, let alone her James.

"I certainly welcome the support," she admitted earnestly as she lifted a hand, stroking her fingertips curiously over his hair. "Suppose I should ... let you try to get settled in," she murmured. "I usually make breakfast, sometime between seven and eight, if you want to be down in the kitchen for that."

"Breakfast would be amazing." Molly was an amazing cook, but Sirius had a tendency to get into everything. So it would be nice to enjoy a relatively quiet breakfast for once.

She nodded. "Well, then I'll see you down there tomorrow," she said softly before she took a step back. Turning to leave, she paused at the door, but she supposed he'd be able to find the mall easily enough. "If you need anything else, I'm in 214." Clearly, he already knew about the network, so she didn't mention that.

"Goodnight, Remus," she murmured before she slipped out.
