Jason watched the monitors and watched the wolves. They were heavily sedated, though their eyes were open. Watching. It was kind of unnerving, really. "All this because the girl pissed him off, huh?" he said as he glanced over to Sam.
"Ahuh," she replied distractedly as she watched the trio in Lily's room. She didn't like that trio, and she thought something very bad was going to have to happen to one of them, sooner or later. She was leaning toward sooner. Something to break them up. To cast doubt. To detract from whatever was making them leaders. Sam didn't want any cohesion.
"No," she said, brow furrowing as she glanced away from the monitor to regard Jason. "Not ... just because of that. He was going to do it eventually. I mean, we bred them early on in the proposal stages of this." Granted, it had been bumped up a little sooner because Matt was pissed. Sadist that he was, he wasn't content with mental annoyances. He wanted to flash the big guns.
Which, really, were the small guns when compared with what Sam knew was on the agenda for the six-month mark. By then, she knew Matt anticipated twice as many people - if things went well. She also knew six months was time enough for people to form close bonds, and that was when they intended to start really poking at those bonds, testing and tearing at them.
Honestly, she was surprised she hadn't caught anyone engaging in 'comfort' sex yet. Granted, some of the population was too young for that, some were attached to people back home, but some weren't. She supposed it was a matter of time, really.
"Where do we stand on the pheromone project?" Matt asked as he stepped into the observation room, reaching for his clipboard and settling down in front of another bank of monitors. He glanced over to Sam, then Jason, and he smirked as he saw the dogs.
"Couple of weeks, at least," Sam replied. "At the very least, and depending on how you want to stagger it. Vary it. Who you want to inject with what." She tapped the monitor displaying the activity in Lily's room. "Those three ... I want them hit up with something that incites mistrust and fear."
Matt glanced over to the monitor, but he knew who Sam was talking about without looking. That little threesome that had bonded a little quickly for his tastes. The fact that it was completely platonic kind of weirded him out. But then, maybe the guy was gay. He smirked; wouldn't that just beat all? He nodded though; he didn't disagree with her.
"Everything's all set for our gradual cooling?" he said. "I see the wolves are set."
"They'll be set," Jason said as he stood up and moved away from the cage. "We're keeping them down for now, until Sunday. Then we'll move them up to the cave. Lay the trails so they'll avoid the traps. In theory, anyway," he added. He couldn't exactly predict that the wolves would stay on the marked trail between the cave and the line.
Matt nodded. They'd taken care of the girl that had dodged the traps past the line, though he hadn't yet seen for sure that the inhibitors had worked. He supposed he'd hear about it soon enough though. Leaning back, he reached into the fridge and pulled out a bottle of water to begin his observations for the evening.
