WHO: Will Robinson & Marco Bodt WHEN: Sunday afternoon WHERE: The diner SUMMARY: Will tries to bake cookies WARNINGS: None in the original narrative. STATUS: Complete
Will took his job assignment very seriously. It wasn't all that different from being assigned something as part of the colonization group, though at least there it was something he knew about. Not like this. He was pretty sure the last time he helped bake something, he was - what - five or six? With his mom? She didn't really have time to bake things, and especially since the Christmas star happened, it definitely wasn't a priority. If they wanted cookies, they sometimes got them at market, like Oreos. The store-bought kind, not the homemade kind. Or they didn't have them at all. Mostly, they didn't have them at all.
He absently rubbed his arm, where he had been injured but it was all healed when he woke up here in that pod a few weeks ago, as he found all of the things he thought he needed to put into a cookie batter and lined them up on the table. He wasn't sure if the recipe book he found was going to be much help because it looked like it was old, but how hard could it be to make chocolate chip cookies?
Apparently pretty hard. Will measured everything out, dumped everything into one big bowl, mixed it all together, and then sprinkled in more than enough chocolate chips, and then made them all into little balls to lay out on a baking sheet. The problem was, Will didn't know how to use this oven and while he thought he put it on the right temperature, he actually put it on way too high. It was barely five minutes into the baking when the smell of burnt cookies filled the diner kitchen and when he opened the oven, he was clouded in a thick puff of smoke. Coughing, he flapped his arms to try and get the smoke away.
When he got the first tray of cookies out of the oven only to find that they were burnt far beyond recognition, Will thought he was going to cry. He dumped the whole baking sheet into the sink and then sat down on the floor, rubbing at his eyes.
