She had no idea where she was, no idea where she was going. All she knew was that she wanted to get away from the redheaded woman whose house she ended up in, who called her a name she didn’t know, who asked too many questions and threatened more. Away took her to a corner where the houses ended, down in the corner of this neighborhood where all the houses looked too much the same. Tired, confused, and more scared than she wanted to admit, the girl took to hiding in the bushes, not sure where to go next when she heard the sound of somebody approaching.
She held still, holding her breath, hoping the man was just passing by and hadn’t actually heard her.
