A nod, and Mimi headed off for the cafe with expectation that Archex would keep pace. Her shoulder muscles were sore from perhaps pushing herself too hard that morning, always frustrated at how much more limited her strength was when the powers were shut off. But the burn matched her mood, ever since this new assignment. Because her victory couldn't last long, even if it was satisfying to fill those luxury apartments with fish. Assholes talked about equality and helping each other, yet neither seemed all that concerned about the conditions the rest of them were living in.
"Mostly the type of shit we bring on ourselves," she admitted, hands shoved into her pants pockets. She had other clothes, but wearing the bright orange of her block felt fitting, a sign of solidarity for the challenges they faced together. Hotel was a familiar environment that represented some of the darker parts of her life behind bars, and in turn brought out some of her worst qualities. But it brought out her fierce loyalty, an overprotective instinct that caused her to drive out the threat she perceived Natasha to be and Harley along with her. If this guy was coming out of the gate looking to stir something up, she had every intention of figuring out what that was.
"Hotel's pretty clear in what he expects." This wasn't really a conversation she minded having with other people around, not paying mind to anyone they happened to pass. The typical run down that any new arrivals to their block ought to go through, to make sure they didn't break rank. So Melissa filled him in on each situation- the marching and detention and being stuck outside in the animal pens. What was expected of them, what mistake was made and by who, each punishment they had to fulfill. How everyone felt. "I wasn't here for the grave digging," she clarified, glancing over to Archex to gauge his reaction to it all so far. "I was in the caves."
She ordered a dark roast, blowing on the hot liquid while waiting for it too cool, glad this place was fairly empty this time of morning.
