First, you shouldn't consider the time you're taking away from the trainers or from anyone else. That's an unnecessary concern where your own survival is at stake. If you want to learn it, then learn it. Acquire the skills, they're there for the taking. All else be damned. Second, if you have a marked strength already, utilize it, but perhaps not so much that others become aware of its presence as your strength.
With that said, I would ordinarily advise combat preparedness in any situation, but there are simply some people we keep off the battlefield. You're one of those people. I wouldn't put you in combat. Not because of a lack of skill in the area, because I'm the one training you in that area, but because you're far more skilled elsewhere. Tactics involve playing to an individual's strengths. I think between first aid and the survival skills, and perhaps the plant and animal identification, if only for the toxins and antitoxins, your organizational abilities may be best applied in that area.
