Fundamentally I have to ask why a building of only 123 people feel the need for a constitution, or what the point of self-governance among lab rats is in a place already governed by the people bringing the lab rats in. There are bigger communities living harmoniously in our very own New York with fewer rules and expectations of conduct. And ultimately none of this matters if someone upstairs decides this is boring and snaps their fingers.
What happened to the six-year-old sounds unfortunate, but it's not our role to play judge, jury and executioner. We don't invent some ad hoc rules up as a kneejerk reaction and ratify it as law because there isn't anything better. What happens when a child is being abused by his or her guardian? Are we going to be changing the rules every time a new situation comes up?
