You don't get to make the rules unless you have the necessary firepower, or political capital, no. We have neither. I don't know if they'll see the error of their ways - people's delusions are shockingly durable - but that doesn't particularly bother me. The majority of people will always disagree with you, when your ideals run counter to their individual interests. They're free to be as wrong as they like, as long as they do what they're told.
I'll just be happy when we reach a point where we can have such conversations openly. We're a long, long way from anything else, but that, at least, we might see soon enough if I can secure the right position.
