While she wasn’t actively trying to read Matt’s mind, it didn’t take much for her to pick up on the fact that he seemed much more perceptive of the situation than someone who couldn’t see should have been. She chewed on her bottom lip, slightly perplexed over what to say, and held her jar of bugs closer to her chest protectively.
“No, I put them in a jar.” She tapped her fingernail against the side, so he could hear what she was talking about. Jean understood though, that telling someone she’d managed to herd a fleet of bugs into a container in a matter of minutes raised more questions than it answered. She paused and sat the jar down on the desk in Matt’s office, trying to think about what else there was she was willing to say. She figured that he’d find out soon enough that many of the people here had gifts.
“I, um.” She winced slightly, knowing full well how weird it was to talk about what she could do. Even the other students, other mutants at a school full of them, were often alarmed by her. They tried to avoid her, worried that she would read their minds or frightened because they’d heard her screaming nightmares. “I can move things with my mind.”
