Who: Bodhi Rook & Galen Erso
When: Before the sky fell
Where: Outside, later an air raid shelter
What: Keeping calm and carrying on.
Rating: PGish, mentions of war.
There was dust and smoke from last night's bombing still lingering in the air like an uncomfortable silence. When he breathed in, Galen almost felt the grit scratch at the back of his throat, but he held his head high all the same and tried to appreciate that he'd managed to pull Bodhi from the safety of the hotel, and not they other man might read any hint of Erso's displeasure as regret for bringing them both out there. He held, perhaps just a little too tightly, to Bodhi's arm as he directed him through the streets, towards the river. On the other side of the river, just across the Westminster Bridge stood a regal, clock down which cast a long shadow across the dark Thames. There, in the shadow of a dark clock tower, on that very bridge, they could spend some time with a view that wasn't four wallpapered walls, or the shell of a shattered city. The tower and the water, solid and calm were a sign of endurance and a sign of life outside of the Wittgenstein experiments that currently toyed with their destinies. At the midway point of the bridge, knowing that they couldn't walk much further, He'd relax and turn Bodhi towards the river. A gap in the middle of a city with water a deeper green than any forest. It was the only color in the burned up city, but he thought, he hoped that Rook would find something grounding here. That this bridge, this liminal space, would be enough to calm him down and make him think about something besides the likelihood that a bomb was going to hit the hotel and kill them all. |
