Waking up in an unfamiliar place would never not be disorienting, but Amos had woken up in enough strange places after enough binges or fugues that he was more or less used to it anymore and he had sort of been expecting this one. It took him a while to get adjusted to his surroundings, the otherwise empty room, the vague light, the weird clothes he was wearing... But once his mind had settled again, he got up and started exploring his new surroundings. He found his block-issued clothing and his jumpsuit, the faded yellow scarf folded carefully and tucked between the layers of heavy grey-green fabric like someone had known how precious it was, and his tool kit sitting on the floor next to the desk. He plucked the Oni pin off the front of his jumpsuit, took it, the scarf, and a shirt, and headed to the showers, scrubbing off almost two weeks of dirt and bad dreams. Then he just stood there under the beating water for a while until the back of his neck and shoulders were numb, before finally getting out, toweling off, and dressing again. He was neat about everything, always had been, at least when his mind would allow it. Order on the outside helped keep order on the inside. So once everything was in its permanent place and the time allotted for him to loiter about in his room was up, he ducked out and went in search of Holden. Amos remembered something about Echo. Holden was in Echo and Echo was blue, so that was where he went. Even though it was still early, people seemed to be up and about, a few doors were open, and Amos didn't really mind peering in to see if he could spot any tell-tale signs of his captain. Then he saw the familiar Tachi jumpsuit in one of the rooms and smiled, stepping inside without bothering to assume he needed to wait for an invitation. The suite was huge, far bigger than he'd anticipated, and Amos' eyes went a bit wide as he wandered through it - back through the living room and study - and angled towards a bathroom where he caught Holden's reflection in a mirror toweling off his face before he saw his captain himself. Amos backed around the corner slightly and put his shoulder to the wall, making sure to stay as silent as he could (and for a guy his size, he could be incredibly quiet) while he waited for the sound of Holden's footsteps out of the bathroom and back towards him, grinning to himself. "Morning, sunshine," he said, just as Holden's foot appeared around the corner to precede him. |
