All in all, the plan to make Sirius believe that they'd all forgotten his birthday was going extremely well. None of them had even bat an eyelash when James' parents had sent Sirius his birthday cupcakes that morning, none of them mentioning it at all. Although Charlotte was usually mean to Sirius, she did feel a little bad when she'd seen the look on his face when everybody brushed it off. She wasn't the sort to ruin a good surprise however and had managed to keep herself from disclosing their true intentions. Other than the fact it was Sirius' birthday, it was generally a fairly average day. She didn't have any classes with the birthday boy himself, and so didn't need to think about maintaining face until dinner. Rather expectantly, Sirius was absent and Charlie was sure she'd know where to find him. So after eating her own food, she transfigured one of the plates into a container and filled it as full as possible with chips before bidding her friends farewell for the moment. They needed a while to get the surprise party ready and so Charlie needed to bide her time.
It took her a while to reach where she suspected Sirius was. What with it being the tallest tower in the castle, the trek to the Astronomy Tower wasn't a quick one. Before she began her ascent up the final set of stairs, she took a moment to fold the waist of her skirt over a few times in order to make it shorter, sure that Sirius would appreciate the sentiment. She then made the last leg of her trip, opening the door to the main chamber without knocking. Naturally professor d'Eath was down in the Great Hall and so Charlie knew that if Sirius was here, he'd be alone. At least, she hoped he would be. She didn't exactly feel like walking in on him with some random bird, but chances were that he was too depressed to do such a thing right now.
"Sirius?" she called out after looking around for a moment, unsure of where he could be, "Are you in here?"
