What: Making Treat Bags!
When:Evening before dinner|October 22
Where:The Kitchens
Rating: Low|SFW
A couple of weeks earlier Victoria had talked with Hyperion about making treat bags for the Quidditch teams whenever they had games. After the mess of a last Quidditch match had happened and the pair hadn't actually went through with their plan and this time around they had decided they would do it. Deciding this was good, Victoria had been excited, but in the days leading up to the actually act of making the treat bags and handing them out Victoria had become apprehensive. She was nervous that the Slytherins would not take kindly to her giving them treat bags. A few of them might be civil about it, but on the whole Victoria did not feel comfortable giving her team treat bags. She wasn't afraid of them hurting her; she had learned to handle herself as a young girl, but she hated the idea of the names they would call her. These were names she should have gotten used to by now, but she still hated being called mudblood by her housemates.
The offer to spend time with Hyperion had been a welcome one. The less time spent with members of her own house was better in Victoria's opinion. She had baking lessons every Friday with Michael, but she had told Hyperion that after her scheduled lesson she would be glad to meet him in the Kitchens to make the treat bags. Friday afternoon came and as usual Victoria changed into something more comfortable, a fuzzy sweater and corduroys. Her rucksack was packed again with her cookbook and a new addition, her apron. It was an old thing she had sewn with her aunt who had done most of the work because despite her efforts Victoria was not a great sewer. It was made from patches of old clothing, blankets etc. from home. It was well worn and Victoria loved it even though she knew it did not exactly look professional. She would probably not wear it during baking lessons, but maybe she would put it on making the treats. No matter how ugly it was it was special to her. This time with Hyperion made Victoria less nervous about giving away treats; she liked spending time with Hyperion not because she had a crush on him, but purely because she liked his friendship.
Shortly after Michael had left the Kitchens, Victoria sat down at one of the tables. She hadn't really had a break all day and even though baking lessons relaxed her, she enjoyed time on her own as well. Victoria bothered one of the House Elves for a Butterbeer and sipped it gratefully as she appreciated the silence. She watched the House Elves work quietly and happily. They were one of the reasons why Victoria enjoyed coming to the Kitchens. She knew that they got the rotten end of the stick, but mostly she thought they enjoyed working at Hogwarts. It was strange, but sometimes Victoria felt somewhat connected to the creatures; they too understood what it felt like to be discriminated against because of blood. One of them wandered up to her and asked if she would like something to eat, but she politely declined. Soon Hyperion would arrive and Victoria didn't want to tuck in just in time for Hyperion to come. Instead, Victoria sat and thought about the match tomorrow. Some might think it was strange that she was planning on cheering for Hufflepuff the following day, but they had been nice to her in a way the Slytherins hardly had been. It was true that Victoria was ambitious and she would do plenty to get to the top of St. Mungo's, but she never truly believed that she was in the right place. She would never be mean about blood status. It was also true that Victoria hadn't found a worse time to be a muggleborn Slytherin student who wasn't a fan of You-Know-Who. It could be dangerous. Emerging from her thoughts, Victoria heard the portrait click open behind her. She turned around and saw Hyperion climb into the room. Waving and smiling, Victoria set down her mug and welcomed him, "Hi!" She grinned and stood up, whispering to one of the House Elves that they could take her drink away. "Are you as excited as I am for tomorrow?"
