"These cups are a lot smaller than what I'm used to," Rory countered, so really, it works out to the same difference. "There's these two girls I go to school with now... I've seen them count out how many chips they can have out of a vending machine bag and throw out the rest... what is the point in even spending the money if you're gonna do that? I'd so much rather just enjoy my food."
"I don't know," she admitted with a slight shrug, "I think she'll probably just be relieved that I'm okay once I explain that I didn't do it on purpose. My Grandma on the other hand would probably have every police officer in the state out searching for me because heaven forbid I throw away my bright future like my mom did." She stopped her slight rant and let out a breath. She hadn't meant to go off like that but she didn't quite understand what it was about the way she and her mom lived that was so horrible to her grandmother.
"Maybe. But where do they go?" she asked, still a little confused as she got a spoon and started to dig into the pudding. "Things can't just vanish, it's impossible."
