"Thank you," John replied quietly. Even though it was the automatic response, he could tell that she truly meant it.
"Harvard, huh?" John grinned, glad to see the topic taking a turn for the better. "You really must be smart," he teased, lifting his head from the back of the chair to look over at her. "And your mom must love you a lot, to do all of that for you."
Cracking his back, John managed to get back onto his feet. "Naw, let's keep going," he told her, grinning at her comment about more coffee. "You know coffee will stunt your growth, right?"
Moving towards the doorway on the opposite side of the room, John wondered what other rooms could possibly be on the ground floor. Pushing open the heavy oak door, his silent question was answered.'
It was another living room, but this one looked even more cozy and comfortable than the one they had just left. There were couches and chairs surrounding a television on the far wall, and just from first glance John could tell it was one of the most used rooms in the house, even when every other room showed signs of being well-used.
Walking into the room, John noticed the shelves off to the side, containing the largest collection of movies he'd ever seen outside of a video rental store. Alongside the Quad and Umatic video cassettes, which John was well-accustomed to, were VHS tapes, which were still fairly new to him, and thinner boxes he couldn't identify. Pulling one off the shelf, he opened it to reveal a shiny, silver disc. What was it?
