"I'm sorry," Rory said. She knew it was something that everyone generally said automatically in situations like this, but she genuinely meant it. She didn't to find out what life was like without her mom around with no chance of talking to her ever again.

"Oh, she is. She's learned so much about the inn business that when she and Sookie have saved up enough they're going to open their own," she informed him poudly. It was probably years off, but she was proud of her mom for setting such a huge goal. "She's my biggest cheerleader, too... doing everythng she could to get me into Chilton, into a world she hates, so that I could have the best possible chance at my dreams of Harvard."
