"I've never been to Connecticut," John told her, "but I still could potentially go there and meet her. That would just be weird." He thought for a minute about being in Hartford and running into a 7 year old that would eventually be the mother of the girl he was currently talking to. That thought was enough to make his head hurt.
"Early 90s," he echoed, wondering what would happen in the next fifteen years to destroy such a powerful country. "It's good that there wasn't a nuclear war," John agreed. For years they'd all believed that a nuclear war would eventually happen between the US and Soviet Union, and could be the only possible end to the Cold War.
"Next thing you're going to tell me is that the Berlin Wall got knocked down and East and West Germany re-unified," he joked, trying to keep the mood light and dispel the horror he felt at finding out his home had been broken apart.
