"What's Gotham?" Shawn asked conversationally, clambering off the armchair in order to inspect the pool table. He'd never actually played pool before, but Dad had always forbidden him from attempting in, which made the game of immediate interest to Shawn. "Is it like a town or something?" He gave the balls an idle swat with his hand, sending them scattering across the table as he turned back to Jonathan, who was still staring out the window.
"Hey, we're higher up here than I thought. What's the view like? You must be able to see the whole quad--" The words stalled in his mouth as, moving over to where Jonathan stood, he finally saw what the other boy had been gazing out at. "--from... here." He finished weakly. For the first time since the two had run into one another, Shawn was dumbstruck. The room they were in overlooked some kind of courtyard, which itself gave way to a wild, rambling garden, and then... that was it. No other buildings, no roads or cars or anything, just... trees, and stuff.
"This," Shawn realised aloud, at last understanding what Jonathan had been getting at, "is wrong."
