Jonathan scowled. Was there a word for fear of getting permanently stuck, Somewhere Else, with a person who refused to understand you? It might be a little strong for what he was feeling now, but this whole adventure was becoming very frustrating, very quickly. Later, the knowledge that even someone new - a kid he had never met before and who therefore couldn't possibly know him either (maybe that was too much wishful thinking) - felt so comfortable not giving him the credit he deserved would just lead to more self-loathing. Of course no one wanted to listen to him. Maybe they didn't know each other, but Jonathan was sure he had Shawn pegged, too: he was just like every other boy.
"It's never sunny," he grumbled under his breath. But what could he do? He wouldn't be able to figure his way around any better without the company, so he was stuck. If Shawn wanted to "check it out", what other choice did he have? So, he waited, arms folded and a hostile glare still fixed on his face, for the other boy to push open the door. Now would be an ideal time, he secretly wished, to get caught.
