"I'm fine," she said, tiredly, letting him help her up. "It's just stress. A lot of stress." Her whole life had been turned upside down the past few months and it was hard to deal with all of it when it repeatedly ended up in the papers as gossip fodder for the idiotic masses who seemed more interested in the ruination of people's lives than actually living theirs. She stared at herself in the mirror, trying to see what Roger saw but all she could see was a pale, small, girl who wasn't anything like the women he was attracted to. She really didn't understand his attraction to her. What had made him change his mind about her and how he'd stayed in love with her for the past few years.
Mandy let him take care of her. It was easy to just let him hold her up while she brushed her teeth and washed her mouth out. Sagging against him, she didn't even have the energy to lift her arms around his neck. Her head rested against his shoulder as he carried her to the bed.
Settling in, she let Roger pull the covers around her, pulling them up when Hesper jumped up so she could crawl underneath the blankets. She shivered against him, curling herself closer to Roger. "I'm really fine, Roger," she said, sliding her hands against his chest, trying to find warmth. "I promise."
