He offered Katie a small smile when she said he'd do all right. He certainly fucking hoped so. He didn't really have a choice, did he? He couldn't afford to fuck up with any of it. His family wasn't going to be thrilled when he all but cut them off after getting Sam, but he couldn't risk the association. Not when the Ministry and the media were going to be watching his every move. He had a team to think about and he didn't need to make things any worse on them than it was already going to be. When she said the bit about a nanny, he couldn't help but laugh. Well, at least she knew him well. "I hope I do. Someone mostly just for when I'm at practices and games," he responded.
Marcus loved Sam. And luckily she was old enough that she could do a lot of things on her own. So Marcus didn't really mind taking on a fair amount of the responsibility for her. But someone had to be with her while he was working. It wasn't like the Falmouth facilities were child friendly. Of course, he sort of hoped that Katie would help out. But it wasn't like he could ask that of her. He knew she liked Sam but things were complicated between Marcus and Katie. He didn't need to add a kid to that equation. At least not until he was sure they could even continue whatever it was they were doing.
When Katie mentioned her father being Marcus's, he had to shake his head. There was no way. His family was well known for it's dark hair and light eyes. There was no way she was that closely related to him. Cousins, however? That was a real possibility. He felt almost a little sick about it. "You should probably look into that," he said a bit sadly. Fuck. What if they were related? This month fucking sucked. Standing up, he leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to the corner of her mouth. He had paperwork to go work on and a million other things to do. He couldn't deal with possibly being related to Katie right now. It was just too much. "I've got to head out but I'll owl you later, yeah?" he said as he headed towards the door. Stopping at the door, he turned around to tell her he loved her before finally leaving. He felt bad for just bailing but he could only handle so much at once.
