Marcus assumed Katie went straight for the chocolate first or completely forgot that she'd said she was coming over because while waiting for her, he'd drifted off. He hadn't even realized he was all that tired, but once he'd been laying down it hadn't taken much to knock him out. He was comfortably laying on his back, asleep, when Katie came in. Her voice and the shift of weight on his bed was enough to wake him up, and while momentarily confused, recognition quickly registered on his face and he couldn't help but smile at Katie.
"Hey," he said with a small smile as she kissed him lightly. She smelled and tasted like chocolate and he couldn't help but smirk slightly. He'd never cared much for chocolate but he found himself craving it more and more lately and he hadn't even bothered wondering why. For the rest of his life he'd probably associate it with Katie Bell. And he sincerely hoped it continued to be a positive association. When she settled a bit and rested her head on his shoulder, he leaned over to kiss the side of it lightly, taking a moment to really breathe her in. He wasn't sure how or why he'd fallen so hard for her, but he couldn't say he hated it. It was a definite annoyance at times, but there were worse things in the world.
When she sat up to look down at him, he pushed himself up slightly on his elbows so that he wasn't completely flat on his back. When she told him her news, he couldn't help the grin that spread on his face. "That's fantastic," he said as he cupped her face and pulled her in for a quick kiss. "Congratulations," he said, pulling back slightly. "You're going to be brilliant. Not as brilliant as me but..." he trailed off teasingly before giving a small laugh. Of course, this just gave them one more thing that put the two of them at an even higher level of competition than normal, but he could worry about that later. He was insanely proud of Katie. She was one of the best Chasers he'd run across and he was glad she was finally getting the recognition that she more than deserved.
