When he got out of Triple A, he was pushing for 105 and further. He had a pitching coach in Texas smack some sense into him, that he wouldn't have anything of a career if he kept that up. On friendly radars he still sees 101, but he isn't pushing for it anymore, he's very aware now of what it could do to his arm. He hasn't had any major surgeries, and has never missed a start. He has some shoulder soreness, but nothing that would keep him from doing what he needed to do.
He is very proud of the control he has over all of his pitches, his biggest selling point is that he can pick his spots and hits them almost every time, with consistency. A walk drives him crazy because he knows he is better than that. He also knows that ERA is still good, but he -wants- that two. It's a point of pride.
And he'll be pleased to meet a fan, even a fan of another team. He knows being sworn at means he was doing his job well.
I am a Yankees fan first. Then Texas, San Francisco and Atlanta. I'm on the outs with the Dodgers and have been having a torrid affair with the Phillies' pitching.
