It was far more complicated than it should have been, climbing a ladder with a bloodied appendage. At first, Rae wasn't favoring it too much. She preferred climbing with bit of a hobble to just not using that leg at all. But about two thirds of the way up, that was when she decided that she couldn't anymore and started climbing with just her three useful appendages. It took longer, but as long as she didn't fall, it was better in the long run.
Rae was almost at the top when she noticed the man's arm reaching over the edge for her. Putting her bloody leg back on the rung closest to it, she let go with one hand and reached up to accept his hand, gratefully accepting the assistance up the last little bit of the climb.
Catching her breath for a second, Rae took a tenuous look down at her leg. The outside of her right calf housed a large bite impression about halfway up, and she made a face as she saw the blood trailing down the rest of her leg and filling her sneaker. "Yeah. Got me as I was climbing up the first little bit of the ladder," she said, turning her leg to get a better look at the wound.
He mentioned that he was an EMT, and she nodded her head once. "Oh. Sure," she spoke in a calm voice that hardly echoed what was going on in her mind. "Thanks, I'd appreciate that. We should be safe up here," she mused, both an attempt to soothe them and herself. This roof was far too high for a climber to climb without falling. It was why she'd chosen it to start getting rid of the infected. As much as Rae hated heights, as much as she panicked every time she looked down from up high, they were practical. Especially in a zombie infested wasteland like this. "Times like this I'm glad I'm Immune," she started, using the small talk to distract her mind as she tore her eyes from her gory leg.
"So, now that we're all okay," she looked up at the three survivors, "I think proper introductions are in order here. I'm Rae," she explained, using her limited knowledge of American Sign Language to spell her name out for the older lady, since she'd only told the EMT what it was.
