In a brainstorming session with Kay, we've come up with a potentially game-changing idea that could be a whole lot of fun. But before we set anything in stone, we wanted to get opinions from everyone else.
Sometime next month, we're going to be introducing an NPC who has toyed with the virus enough to make himself superhuman. The plan is for him to serve as something of an antagonist for the PC's, but we expanded on the idea after speaking with Kay, to suggest that maybe he drugs the compound's water supply with some sort of drug. This drug would awaken latent abilities in the virus to those who are immune, giving them physical or mental based abilities. We aren't talking moving air or flying or whathaveyou, but physical things like regeneration, enhanced strength, dexterity, speed, etc., or mental things like telepathy, telekinesis... the base sci-fi powers.
There was even mention of making the abilities temporarily available to non-immune characters, albeit much weaker.
This is a vague rundown, really, and the discussion had a lot more detail in it, but we wanted to see how all of you felt about introducing something like this into the mix. It's a big deal, and we wouldn't want to just spring it on you. If there's enough interest, we'll make a more detailed post, giving more detail.

Current list of acceptable abilities. Just to give you guys an idea of what we'll allow/what we won't. We will definitely take suggestions, as long as they're not too, too sci-fi.
Mental Danger Sense – the ability to sense oncoming danger. Empathy – the ability to manipulate and feel the emotions of others. Infected Communication – the ability to communicate with wakers. Lie Detection – the ability to tell if someone is telling the truth or lying. Memory Manipulation – the ability to manipulate another living being's memories. Telepathy – the ability to read minds. Telekinesis – the ability to move objects with the mind. X-Ray Vision – the ability to see through solid objects.
Physical Adoptive Muscle Memory – the ability to replicate a body motion after observing it. Body-mass Manipulation – the ability to temporarily change the size of one's body. Elasticity – the ability to stretch and elongate one's body and limbs. Enhanced Memory – the ability to quickly absorb and accurately retain great amounts of information. Enhanced Senses – the ability to see, hear, smell, taste and feel at a heightened level. Enhanced Speed – the ability to move faster than usual. Enhanced Stamina – the ability to sustain numerous blows before succumbing to the effects. Enhanced Strength – the ability to exert great strength from one's muscles. Intangibility – the ability to pass through solid matter at will. Psychic Resistance – the ability to cancel the affects of any mental power, but not the power itself. Regeneration – the ability to heal oneself from even the gravest of wounds.
