She’d listened to the rain all day yesterday. Let it lull her to sleep and when Kori woke up that morning it was still raining. It was shortly after nine when the idea to take a walk in the rain crossed her mind. Not in that passing idea sort of way, but that all consuming can’t think of anything else. It had been ages since she’d gone for a walk in the rain. She liked the feel of it on her skin as the rain soaked her clothes. It was peaceful.
And extra quiet aside from the patter of the rain on the puddles.
She roamed the yard, taking her time and just enjoying how she could go out in the rain with no purpose and not be eaten. It was something she was still getting used to honestly. She’d hovered in the doorway for a long time before she took her first few tentative steps into the wet world outside. Old habits it seemed were slow to break after living for years in safe houses surrounded by zombies with very little reprieve.
As she wondered Kori wondered if anyone else was doing the exact same thing right then. And why shouldn’t they be? Reveling in the protection the walls afforded was entirely understandable and honestly she was surprised more people weren’t taking advantage of it. Or maybe I’m the only person that enjoys walks in the rain. She thought as she continued to wandered with no real purpose and occasionally indulging her inner adolescent by jumping in puddles sending a spray of murky water upwards around her knees and caking bits of dirt on the fabric that was later washed away.
