WHO: Rory and OPEN (even though OMG leaving threads open usually makes me panic and die) WHAT: Morning run. Time for a break. WHERE: Sing Sing grounds WHEN: Super early, April 17th. RATING: TBA STATUS: In Progress
When Rory first moved into the safehouses, she'd tried to find an easy way to work out on a daily basis. Running was her exercise of choice, and all through school she'd made a point to start her days by tucking a few hard miles beneath her belt. But it was difficult to really enjoy a run when you were actually running from something, and a jog indoors had always been littered with human-shaped obstacles.
Sing Sing was different. That went without saying, but it was ridiculous when she got up high enough and could really take in the sprawling landscape of the prison. Rory didn't have to stick to the recreation yard or the interior roadway. Hell, there was enough space to run inside without seeing another person to get in her way. There was something thrilling about having options, about knowing she could run for hours if the mood struck. Granted, she had a lot to do, helping with fortifications, getting the medical ward back in tip-top shape, but running freely was one of those amazing perks that she hadn't considered before they actually moved.
Lately she'd been more than happy to go for a jog with someone else, enjoying the company, but she woke up knowing she wanted to push herself that morning, and the best way for her to do that was just to head out on her own. It was like high school all over again, tugging on a tank top and shorts, pulling her hair back into a sloppy ponytail, and greeting the moon as she stretched. The sun was starting to brighten the sky, enough that Rory could easily see where she was going, but it was always quietly delightful, seeing the moon as well.
It took Rory a good hour before she stopped herself, muscles sore and sweat kissing her brow. It felt good, though, pushing her body and seeing that she still had it in herself to maybe smash an old track record or two. The walk back to her building would take a few minutes, but she didn't mind slowing down to enjoy the scenery on her way back. Turning, her brows shifted upwards slightly, more amused than startled by the sight of another person. Things were so quiet when most of the population was still asleep, it was easy to forget someone was always awake.
"You could scare a girl, sneaking up like that," she said with a friendly, albeit breathy, chuckle.
