WHO: Mike Rivers, Greg Blair.
WHERE: Out on the streets.
WHEN: March 17th, early morning.
WHAT: Mike finds Greg. Or Greg finds Mike. c:
RATING: Medium.
Today was going to be a good day.
If you asked Mike, it was mostly because of Kori -- she wanted to go looting with him today, and she'd get to show her some of the things he'd gotten to know, make himself look good and capable in front of her. But there were other things, too. The sun was shining. The sky was cloudless. The dead were there, of course, the way they always were -- couldn't help being, maybe -- but Mike had managed to keep his baton clean and his brass knuckles out of brain matter. At least for now. They never tended to be active this early in the morning anyway, which was why he often tried to schedule his runs just after sunrise.
It kept him sharp, too. Something about these hours and their sickly clean light.
Even so, on Mike's way back from dropping off a parcel of supplies he couldn't help wanting to stop and rest a little. Why not? The breeze was nice; he could climb up on a rooftop and take a breather, feel it in his hair a little. The little things, right?
He ducked into an alley, slipping slightly on one of those odd greasy patches left behind by the dead; they rotted away and left behind a sheen of decay on anything they touched. The sidewalk here was stained the faintest red.
"Fuckin' disgustin'," he muttered, starting his way up the fire escape.
