Charlie wasn’t entirely sure why she’d asked him to stay, either. There were things that needed to be said, to be talked about, but seeing him felt like a hard punch in the gut, and she didn’t know if was ready. Hell, she wasn’t sure she’d ever be ready. A part of her-- a large part, in fact-- was still angry beyond belief and wanted to hate him, but she hadn’t been able to, despite everything. She’d barely been able to keep her mind off of him. And how many lies had she told to protect her loved ones? Those three looters that had attacked her... she’d kept that a secret from everyone. Even promising her friends she’d be back had been a lie-- really, she wanted to run and never come back, to find some way back to the cold hard bitch she’d been before, with no attachments and no pain, but she couldn’t. Like it or not, she’d made some crazy semblance of a life here, and there were still people that needed her, like Brandon, like the revolution, like Dani and Nat. Especially Dani and Nat. She was all they had here, since Ian was still missing in action, and she couldn’t let them down like she had so many others.
Somehow, hearing that meeting up had been O’Brien’s idea didn’t surprise her much. At least, not as much as hearing that Rodeo had apologized first; that had practically made her drop her phone in shock. Not because it didn’t need to be done, of couse, but because the two had hated each other so bitterly that she never thought either of them would apologize to one another. It was like her and Alghren, or so she’d assumed, but it seemed that wasn’t the case. But O’Brien was a good man. He’d forgiven her, never even blamed her; he’d been so certain, even after she’d admitted all the terrible things she’d done following orders, that she wasn’t a bad person.
“What’d you two talk about?” She asked, after a long moment, keeping her eyes straight ahead as she headed up the stairs. The roof seemed the best place to talk quietly, without fear of interruption or eavesdroppers. Charlie had only seen the gestures, had only been watching for any hint of violence, and she was curious as to what had been said. “I’m not upset with you for meeting with him, not when it was to apologize. I’m just surprised you did in the first place.”
