Rodeo hadn't been sure that Charlie would really come to meet him. He had thought that if he ever wanted to see her again, he'd have to find her himself-- he never thought she would willingly come to him. He wasn't sure why she had asked him to stay. She had told him to stay away from O'Brien after everything went down. Maybe she was pissed at him for disobeying. He didn't know what to expect, but after O'Brien turned away, he waited anyway, chewing on the inside of his cheek.
When he saw her, it was the most painful relief he'd ever felt. He hadn't been sure he could stand the ache if she didn't show, but seeing her wasn't much easier. He'd wanted so bad just to see her face, to have her nearby-- but seeing her reopened every wound, made the pain of losing her fresh and sharp in his heart. His hands itched to reach out and touch her, but he knew he couldn't. Not ever again.
He nodded when she spoke, stepping into stride with her as they started to walk. He tried not to watch her too much, but it was proving difficult for him to take his eyes off of her. He wasn't sure when-- or if he'd ever be able to see her again. He noticed her bruises and scrapes, but he didn't bring them up. He wasn't any better off, after everything he'd been getting up to lately-- bruises, bites, scratches. He had no place worrying over her wounds.
"I know you told me to stay away from him," Rodeo said quietly as they walked. "But he suggested we meet. I just wanted to apologize."
