He smiled softly when Leah admitted that she liked her nickname that he'd given her. It fit. And he never meant it as insulting or anything. It was a term of endearment. "Good." He gave a nod, "I like Quarantine Guy better than Pig."
O'Brien turned his attention back to her; Did she mean it? She was officially going to let him be one of her guard dogs? He liked that. He wanted to protect her and keep her safe, and whatever she couldn't take care of on her own, he wanted to be there to see to it. "I can't help it," the worry. He was a bad worrier. He stressed himself out over it half the time. Especially when it involved something or someone he really cared about; He got ridiculously emotionally involved.
He smiled again, lifting his eyes back up to meet with hers when she gave his shoulder that shake, "thank you, Leah," he gave her a nod, "I like that. I like knowing that." It certainly put him a little more at ease knowing that Leah would look out for them. Especially after she didn't really give him an answer earlier that evening, when he asked if she would. She said that he could take care of them and look out for them, himself. Not in a mean way, but because she wanted him to stay alive. He knew that.
"I just want them to be okay. My sister.. She..." He shook his head, "I don't know how to make it better. I just don't like seeing her sad. and Luke-- Jesus. I knew what to do with him when he was eight. And his parents were there if he needed something. All I had to do was build Lego castles with him. Now Alana's saying I've got to be like a father figure of some sort. I don't know how to do that. Especially not now. What? You give them the talk about the birds and the bees and the zombies?"
He sighed, "I'm sorry." He knew she wasn't good with advice. Or so she said. He wasn't asking for any advice. He just needed to throw it all out there. He liked knowing that someone was listening.
He nodded, hugging onto her, "Me too. I had no idea it'd be like that. I just.. You said you needed me to come up to the roof with you, so I did. Never thought you'd kiss me. Ever. Especially after the whole mistletoe thing." He offered her a smile, "but I'm glad you did. And I'm glad you let me get a little carried away too." He hadn't felt like that in years. That made him feel insanely old. "I enjoyed it. One of the best nights of my life." He gave her another assured nod, "truth."
