He quietly watched her, canting his head slightly when she eventually looked up at him. His brows pushed together when she finally spoke up, her voice and that look acknowledging that he was, indeed, there. But Leah was definitely not okay. It was clear as day. And she'd talked to him without much emotion before, but this? This was different.
Hesitating a moment, he shook his head, confusion still all over his face, "you.. you didn't get in the way. You and Brandon, you guys were like my voice of reason." Because he was an idiot for thinking that he could take on Rodeo in the shape he was in. Not to mention ever. But he hadn't planned on going there to fight the guy. He was going to try and be civil, but who was he kidding? They probably would have wound up killing each other.
He didn't really know what else to say. Not yet. As far as he knew, Luke and Alana were just fine at the moment, and hopefully they'd stay that way. He would go back up to look after them after he left Leah. She'd said he could come see her, though. Actually, she had said 'please' come see her. So there he was.
He just hadn't expected, well, that.
He blinked, taken aback by her words, and felt an awful sinking feeling in his chest. What had he done? He'd tried to tell Charlie about Rodeo-- and it had all backfired on him. His eyes searched her expression a moment before he dropped his gaze downward, and reached up to rub at his forehead and push his hair back away from it a bit.
Of course. He should have known she'd change her mind. Or take it all back. He just didn't think hearing Leah's words like that would hurt so much.
Dropping his hand away from his face, he shook his head, giving a firm motion toward her with both hands as he looked back up at her, "I-I'll go back. I'll bring Brandon back. He'll be okay. It's.. I-- I'll bring him back." He nodded to Leah before hesitating.
"I'm sorry.." He looked her over, "Everything will be okay. This is my fault, and I'm going to make it right." He hesitated, "chance..or..Or no chance. I'll make it right," he let his voice trail off. Okay, yeah. He felt like his heart might be about to shatter into a thousand tiny pieces -- who knew he'd grown so fond of Miss Machete? -- But he couldn't let that get to him. Not now. Not at that moment. He had to go make sure Brandon came back to Leah, if nothing else.
He didn't like seeing her all upset like that.
He didn't get it. He apparently didn't understand. He felt like Leah was mad at him. Upset at him. Whatever it was, it was enough to make her actually say she felt like giving him a chance was too soon. That hurt.
He needed to stop wasting time. Giving a look around, he felt a bit confused. Lost. "I.." he motioned toward her again, "Do you need anything?" She did look pretty bad off. And like before, even if she wasn't his, he wasn't not going to look out for her. "I should go," he gestured back over his shoulder, "I'll bring your brother back. I promise. Please try not to worry..?"
