WHO: Charlie, Dani, and Rodeo.
WHAT: Old friends, meet new friends.
WHERE: Firehouse 33.
WHEN: After this.
STATUS: Placeholder.
RATING: Low-ish. Charlie's going to try and control herself for the kid.
It was almost funny, if she thought about it. Charlie was a smart, capable, tough-as-nails woman. She'd faced down serial killers, mob hitmen, terrorists, and more than a few hostage-takers. There were very few people that actually scared her-- unless, of course, they were under thirteen years of age. Then she wanted nothing to do with them.
Kids terrified Charlie. It wasn't the fact that she couldn't relate to them. She could, on some level, or at least appreciate their brutal brand of honesty and lack of a need to bullshit people, and she generally didn't mind being around them if they weren't too annoying, despite the fact that she tended to piss off parents left and right with her foul mouth. No. What she feared was caring for kids.
When she'd found out she was a godmother, her first reaction was "that's a terrible fucking idea". Charlie still thought it was a terrible idea, but after the week she'd had, she longed to see her old friend. What scared her more than possibly caring for a kid, though, was showing her old friend how she'd changed. She didn't know what she'd do if Dani rejected her, confirmed what Charlie herself feared: the apocalypse had turned her into a monster of a human being.
That's part of why she wanted Rodeo to be there, though she wouldn't admit to it. If she was going to get her heart crushed by an old friend, she didn't want to be alone. So she'd texted them both, telling them to meet her at eight in the firehouse cafeteria, where she currently paced nervously between the tables.
Now, it was just a matter of who showed up first.
