"I'll see what I can do," Rodeo said, making no promises about it. No matter what Adelaide said, if the guy didn't treat her right, it wasn't going to continue. Rodeo's temper would win out if Cail made the wrong moves, and Rodeo knew there was no turning back from there. He figured she knew that just as well as he did, forgetting how he had sheltered her from his temper, forgetting how infrequently she had seen that violence that could possess him.
"I doubt anyone's gonna tell me where your fella is, if you do take off. His sort is pretty private," Rodeo said, and he wanted to say so much more-- what he knew of the government's plans, what they had been planning in retaliation-- but he had no way of knowing that she wouldn't turn around and repeat what he said to her man, no way of knowing if she would believe him at all. He'd have to wait and hold his tongue. He pocketed his phone and then he leaned in and brushed a scruff-itchy kiss to her temple, touching her shoulder briefly. The quick contact brought the sting to his eyes again, so he nodded towards the doors and took a stiff step away from her. "Get inside 'fore it gets dark."
