"I don't remember much," admitted Ellie, straight-faced. "I don't know how long I was out there. Only a few months, I think. I don't know. One day I sort of... Snapped out of it. I was sleeping in a department store under a pile of prom dresses."
She didn't know if people would warm up. It was nice of Viv to say, but it seemed that everyone had banded together already; there wasn't any room for someone like El with most of them. She was sure eventually she'd meet people like her -- people thriving on the edges. It was just hard to know what that would mean.
"Las Vegas? Julliard? I had friends there," Eloise said, remembering. Her former life was so much clearer than the last couple of years; so much more colorful. "What did you do? Theatre?" She could see Vivian in theatre -- performing in general. She had a kind of spark Ellie had seen in other performers.
"I was Neural Science and Psychology -- worked in a lab all day."
