"That and it would take you forever," Evan commented nonchalantly, going on Leah's mention of admitting her faults. "Don't worry, if you started, I'd have to start too and we don't want to be here all day."
Leah, of course, picked up on the perverted undertones of Evan's comment and it was both disconcerting and comfortingly hilarious at the same time. "I'm fairly certain we'd both have to have fallen pretty damn far to flirt with each other, though," he said, his eye-expression telling her that he was mostly kidding. Leah was an attractive woman. Were it not for the fact that they could barely get through a conversation without killing each other, or the existence of O'Brien and Eloise, it wouldn't be such a strange concept. As it stood, though, it was hilarious and unbelievable. "Oh? So the incident where we were pinned between the waker group and the water was just a figment of my imagination, then?" He was kidding, but he'd deal with whatever repercussions later.
Snorting a laugh at her comment about schmoozing with the eskimos, Evan shrugged. "Yes, but what would your days be without the enriching wonder of my presence, Bitchy? You'd miss me way too much. Admit it," he said in faux encouragement.
"We should have a sparring ring," he threw out arbitrarily in regards to the rebellion. "Give everyone a chance to blow off steam and keep everyone in shape." That and, if the opportunity afforded itself in the future, it gave them the chance to see which one of them really was better. He knew Leah would get that underlying meaning... such was that weird unspoken communication they sometimes shared.
Still regretting his show of mistrust, Evan nodded once in understanding of Leah's statement. He considered mumbling an apology, but thought better of it. Best not to beat a dead horse, he figured.
The way Evan saw it, if he was going to lead, he needed to be open-minded. He had people with him who were just as skilled at surviving as he was, some more skilled, and if he didn't ask for opinions, he would be no better than the guards he was decrying and trying to resist. If he'd known that he'd caused Leah pride in just listening to her suggestion, he wouldn't really know what to make of it, so it was better that he didn't.
Evan's eyes widened at the mention of Brandon being the cause of the attack on Liberty Island. "Merde..." he whispered, eyes still wide as he tried to push back some of the questions he had to ask. It was both surprising and unsurprising. Brandon had never been known for good decision making, after all. And this more or less proved it. But he didn't say any of that. This was likely hard enough on Leah without him adding to that. "I won't tell anyone, don't worry." He discarded the threat, because it was a non-issue. Evan was a master at secret-keeping, after all.
