A lesser man would have fallen prey to her comment about clumsiness and given her more fuel to add to the fire, but Evan wasn't feeling particularly argumentative that day. He wasn't sure if that was more fortunate for Leah or himself, but either way, someone was coming out of "No, that's just me," Evan said with a big, wry grin. "Most French people are more graceful than me." He smiled at the memory of his wife, the most graceful and brilliant person he'd ever seen, but the smile quickly faded. "Generally speaking, French people are pretty graceful, but I had to be the mold-breaker there." Not that he legitimately thought that his was the last French family in existence, though sometimes it felt that way.
He scoffed, but grinned when she called him on his clumsiness. "Eh, I'd be more offended if it wasn't absolutely true. But hey, when it really counts, I'm not clumsy." If Charlie and O'Brien hadn't been there, he'd have been better about keeping himself in check. He was sure she'd mention the gator, but if she did, he'd remind her of all the times he'd watched her back. Smirking when she joked about not running into him hunting for supplies, he nodded his head. "Probably a good idea. I'd have to fight you to the death, and I'd hate to have to kill you." It was a joke, obviously, but it needed to be said.
So shocked was he by the gesture of kindness that Leah showed by offering him the noise canceling headphones, he arched an eyebrow speechlessly for a moment. "Oh," he started, accepting them and looking them over for a second for some kind of booby trap or whatever. He wouldn't put it past Leah. "Thanks," he said, when he finally deemed them safe. Maybe later he'd discover that they played some kind of continuous scream instead of canceling out noise. He'd deal with that later.
He nodded his head. "There were a few other things. I've got them hidden away in my things right there," he told her, gesturing to the duffel on the floor that he'd asked his brother to bring to him. "You can take a look, but if you don't mind I'd like to keep them until I can sketch mockups."
Was he boring her? The yawn made him want to roll his eyes and make a sorry, am I boring you? comment, but he didn't. He listened to her suggestions and nodded his head once. "That's probably true. We could work our way there with explosives, but they'd have to be weak enough not to compromise the integrity of the sewer itself." The last thing he wanted was to be crushed in a sewer pipe. "Depending on whether there are people living there or not, the sewers there have the potential to be twice as disgusting as the ones under the city, so I'm not sure if I'm a fan of that concept either. It's worth considering, though."
"I'm sure they have old fashioned guard towers. If we go down there after nightfall, I'm sure we can get up to the top of the guard towers undetected, and then we can scope it out from there. Wouldn't want to just charge in," like your brother went unsaid.
