"Pardon me for thinking it might all be a ruse." The joke was obvious on Evan's face, but he didn't think Leah would find too much humor in it. Such was the standard when he joked with her. He liked it that way, though. The rest of the world was ever-changing, so having that one constant, the fact that he could still fuck with Leah Stone and get a reaction was an odd comfort in the face of it. "And if you'd done that I would have lauded you. I'm not one of those up-tight Frenchmen who can't take a joke about his culture." As a matter of fact, he made more than enough of those on his own. "I think we're the two worst people to pit against one another in a decency contest, however." The smirk didn't fade. "That's like picking the ripe apples in a barrel of rotten ones."
Evan shrugged. "It's not so bad. They may be a little quicker in the dark but they're clumsier too," he pointed out with a grin. "Sometimes people forget that they still rely on sight. So all you have to do is get up high and it's something of a show, watching them try to get at you." Sadistic? Maybe. But the infected deserved a little bit of sadism. With all they put people through.
"The only problem with noise-canceling headphones is finding them, or finding someone willing to part with them in trade." Evan had searched high and low for a decent pair, but he'd come up empty handed so far. "I'm still on the look out though, definitely." Another laugh. "I would say that I try to avoid getting hurt too, but it would probably be more believable had I not been the only one to charge at the gator. Or charged right at those guards when they were on Lilah's case."
Turning his head when Leah sat, Evan smiled and watched her approvingly look over the blueprint. "Library. The NY Public Library has some really interesting files in the attic," he mused. And he'd been spending a reasonably decent amount of time there lately. But he didn't feel the need to bring that up.
Evan leaned in the bed to glance at his plans while she flipped through them. "That's what I was thinking. If it's undead, the roof is probably the best bet," he said, sticking to his guns, but then reached down to flip over to the next page. "But I thought you might say that? So I also did this..." he said, pointing out the ground route, and the underground route on the next page. "There's a manhole just outside that leads to a sewer path that leads inside to this manhole cover," Evan pointed to it. "It's a prison, though, so I don't know what kind of security measures are down there."
"If we go ground, we can probably grapple up. I have some climbing gear stowed away and some wire cutters to get rid of the barbed wire or whatever else is at the top."
