Rae shrugged and chuckled. "I get that a lot. All I have to say in response is don't judge a book by its cover," she grinned, then paused and looked at the other woman. "Though I don't really want to test that theory right now. I'm not a big fan of fighting people who are actually living, since they seem to be so few and far between nowadays," she added, leaning back against a nearby wall and took a deep breath, pushing away the pang of sadness the thought caused.
"See, exactly. You can't be one way all the time," she agreed with the woman, smiling a little bit. "Mostly everyone runs around being all mopey and depressed nowadays, and while I understand, and I'm sure they have every reason to be, I could never handle just being mopey." She'd done enough moping for her lifetime over the past couple weeks. "You need a little variety or you become almost like an automaton, you know? I dunno, I just like the idea of being varied. That sounds weird, doesn't it?" she chuckled, realizing that she'd rambled a bit but she couldn't help it. Usually, Eli heard all this stuff, but it had been a few days since she'd heard from him so all of it came pouring out now.
The conversation went back to Carnegie and her head lowered. "Yeah. I was there with my parents and my friends. My mom actually…" she trailed off, not finishing the thought, but she was pretty sure that she didn't need to. Her face probably said it all. "That's why I'm trying to bring a bit of cheer, you know? For both their sake and my own."
"Sweet. Thanks, you're a lifesaver!" Rae's cheerful attitude came right back as Billie gave her a task to perform. "I'm sort of hoping they have some costumes, because I promised a friend that if I ever did anything like this, I'd help him dress up as Bret Michaels. I have every intent on following through as long as I can find the right stuff…" she added with a chuckle.
