Rodeo patted Scotty between the shoulders, turning back towards the library and heading in that direction with him. He hoped the boy would be safe and comfortable there, that he would lose some of the sadness Rodeo could see in his eyes. He couldn't help wondering what he'd been witness to, where his family was... Rodeo was sure that the boy had been through a lot more than he had himself since this all started.
"Just somethin' for this lady I like," Rodeo told Scotty, keeping a careful eye out as they walked, making sure they didn't run into another group of the infected. "I mean, she don't like me, but I'm real sweet on her anyhow. You know how ladies are, right cowboy?"
It was a bit of a hike back to the library, but they made it before the sun completely set behind the buildings. Rodeo grabbed one of the child-sized bedrolls for Scotty from the supplies, figuring he'd get the boy registered in the morning. They'd been though enough for the night, and Scotty looked tired.
"You hungry or anything? I got a shitload o' Hormel," Rodeo said as he set up Scotty's bed for him, near Rodeo's own bedroll.
