Family. Scotty took another step back, his arms raising to hug himself. He only wished he had family out here. He wouldn't even be in New York if he still had a family. They would still be in Maine, maybe Canada by now, and they would be together and safe and- just, everything that Scotty wasn't and didn't have now. Nevermind the fact that Rodeo was offering him all of those things. It didn't even come close to being the same. Rodeo was a stranger, whereas family was familiar.
But he did like reading. And it would be nice to be safe for even just one night.
"I'm too old to be read to," Scotty mumbled, looking up at Rodeo shyly. He ducked his gaze back down again. It would be possible for him to leave when Rodeo was sleeping too. Easy, even, to just slip away and find another apartment building like this. Or anywhere high, really. Just as long as the zombies couldn't get him.
